Chemical Consolidation

The introduction of a grout whose viscosity is sufficiently low to enter interstices at pressures and rates that the parent/host material will allow without rupture or failure (fissuring.)

The uses of chemical consolidation are numerous and based on the changing in nature of the sands and gravels by sticking all the particles together to form a near homogeneous impervious mass. Chemical consolidation uses are underpinning, water cut off and consolidation/stabilisation to stop a "running condition," the retention of soils providing a vertical face.
